Diary — Дневник Deutschland

Raisa’s personal diary, written in two notebooks. The first — a 10-kopeck Ukrainian school notebook brought from Kyiv — bears the handwritten title «Дневник Deutschland» (Diary Germany). The second is a German shorthand notebook (Deutsches Kurzschrift-Heft) marked №2.

Unlike her censored letters home, the diary contains direct political language, emotional depth, and literary prose. She wrote it with awareness of a future reader: “Полагаю читающий мой прекрасно поймёт остальное” (I assume my reader will perfectly understand the rest).

She wrote to the very last page — even around the multiplication table printed on the back cover.

• May 8, 1942 May 8, 1942 — First Diary Entry — "The first diary of my life." Raisa describes leaving Kyiv on April 14, the frozen blood, and arrival in Kraków.
• May 1942 May 1942 — Twenty-One Nights in a Horse Stable — Ansbach transit camp. Promised one night in a city stable. Stayed twenty-one.
• May 1942 May 1942 — Separation — Raisa and her companion Raya are assigned to different farms. The moment they realize they won't be together.
• May 9–10, 1942 May 9–10, 1942 — First Days on the Farm — Meeting Kurban. The cowshed at 4:55 AM. The second night — cried until morning.
• May 9, 1944 May 9, 1944 — Sense of Russians Coming — Two years into captivity. Fragment mentions 'что настало русских' — sense that Russians are approaching.
• ~1944 1944 (Unknown Date) — Factory Exploitation — Factory conditions described: 'они эксплуатируют рабочих' (they exploit the workers) and 'суп водяной' (watery soup).
