Context

A tantalizing postcard in which Raisa promises her family stories beyond anything they’ve heard or read. What wonders? The German countryside? The threshing machines? The fox hunts? The Serbian and Ukrainian workers? Or darker things she can’t write on a censored postcard? The characteristic misspellings (“розскажу,” “можишь,” “покетик”) capture her voice — educated but writing fast, in a language that’s drifting between Russian and Ukrainian.
